How do you do what you do?

My artwork is a blend of photography, digital art, and traditional art. I generally begin with a series of photographs which usually include a model of some sort, and some backdrop details to blend in. I am an experienced photographer, and try to incorporate my own 'stock' as much as possible. However, there are a lot of stock alternatives out there, including some fantastic photographers and models that I work with in order to get the 'look' I am after.

Once I have the photographs in place and edited, I then go into programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS5, and Corel Painter X... and begin creating the digital painting. By combining methods of photomanipulation, hand painting, and textured layering that I have perfected over the past five years, I achieve the look I am after. I use an Intuos3 Wacom tablet, which is like a huge digital sketch pad. This allows me to utilize my traditional art skills in countless ways, in the same way someone might use charcoal on paper, or paint to canvas.

Ultimately, my overactive imagination is really to thank for what I create. I am constantly daydreaming and thinking of new ideas and visions to bring to life. I am a storyteller by nature, and consider my art as the best way to convey the tales I want to tell.

What are your tools of the trade?

Here is a list of the exact things I use.

Adobe Creative Cloud
Wacom Intuos 3 9x12 digital art tablet
DAZ Studio
Canon 7D
Numerous traditional art supplies
I also have an extensive list of stock resources I use, above and beyond my own. Please refer to my credit page to see names and find links to the fantastic people who allow me to utilize their stock.

Rights:

I retain all rights to the artwork I create, unless stated otherwise on the contract I give to my client. For commercial hire, a price can be negotiated to obtain exclusive rights, but otherwise the images are provided under a usage license.

My specifications:

My work may be displayed on your blog or website if the following terms are followed:

*IF YOU WISH TO POST SAMPLES OF MY ARTWORK on social networking sites - then the following rules apply: The artwork and/or photograph must not be changed in any way, including brush work, color changes, watermark removal, inclusion in layout and/or skin designs, or any other derivative application. (Obviously this also forbids any website that would allow you to sell my image!)

Please include credit to Aimee Stewart or Foxfires at Foxfires.com.  And if a link to my website can be provided, I would appreciate it.  Why?  Because I make my living selling my artwork, and if people do not know where the artwork that they've fallen in love with came from, then I cannot continue to do what I love.  Please help an artist out by giving credit where credit is due!

My work nor any derivatives of it must not be used for any commercial work such as book covers, banners, website designs, layouts, cd covers, magazine illustrations or covers, etc. unless you have contacted me and arrangements have been made for such use through a contract and payment.

By reading these terms you agree to adhere to the following conditions regarding all works created by me. If you misuse, or fail to follow the above conditions, legal actions can and will be taken.   (And a big THANK YOU to everyone out there who follows these rules, and shares my art on your forums!  You are the best!)
